Terms.
Short, because the app does little that needs governing: it runs on your device, encrypts your files, and is yours to use.
The app
VaultPony is provided free of charge for Android. Both the application and the shared core are licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Downloading the APK from GitHub Releases is also governed by GitHub's own terms, and as the app reaches F-Droid, the App Store, and Google Play, each of those distributions will be governed by that channel's standard terms as well.
There is no password recovery
This deserves its own heading, because it is the one thing people are surprised by. If you forget a vault password and have no keyfile and no header backup, the contents are gone. Not delayed, not recoverable for a fee, not recoverable by the developer. There is no master key, no reset link, and no back door, and that is the property that makes the encryption worth having. Back up your header, and keep your password somewhere you will still have it later.
No warranty
VaultPony is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Encryption software can fail, storage can fail, and a vault is a single file that a filesystem error can damage like any other. Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. A vault is not a backup.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any loss of data, inaccessible vault, forgotten password, corrupted container, or other damages arising from use of the app. You assume responsibility for what you store and how you keep it.
Hidden volumes
Hidden volumes are a technical feature with real limits, described in detail on the security page. Two things are worth stating here. Writing to an outer volume without protection enabled can destroy the hidden volume inside it, and the app offers protection precisely because that risk is real. And what a hidden volume is worth in any particular legal or physical situation is not something software can determine; that judgement is yours.
Acceptable use
Do not use VaultPony to break the law where you live. Beyond that, what you put in a vault is your business. The app has no way to know and is built that way on purpose.
Trademarks
VeraCrypt is a registered trademark of IDRIX. VaultPony is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by IDRIX. The container format is implemented clean-room from published format documentation; no VeraCrypt or TrueCrypt source is used or linked.
The website
This site is informational: it explains how VaultPony works and links to the source and the download. It collects nothing, as described in the privacy policy.
